Old Ways for the Same Result
The guillotine, lethal injection, the electric chair and countless other killing machines have slowly evolved over the many years that capital punishment has been around our world. Now Utah’s government seeks at bringing one of those deadly traps back; the firing squad. The governor of Utah, Gary Herbert was quoted saying, “a little bit gruesome” when asked about the method of the firing squad. Herbert signed this bill having the idea that if they ever do run out of the lethal injection drug that they resort to bullets instead. While all of this is very primal for the government to be resorting to, it makes sense in a way. Whenever there is a terrible crime committed that this should need to be enforced it is good that they have it. However, the idea that shooting someone point blank range multiple times sounds a little 1900’s for my taste. It is 2015 and with all of our modern day technology we still cannot find a more humane way to kill someone then by our own bullets, how is that even possible. It seems like our everyday focus is on war, weapons, and firepower yet we still want to shoot people to prove a point. Don't get me wrong, I don't oppose capital punishment itself, but I do oppose the ways it's being taken out by our government. You look on the news and see terrorist groups have executed another innocent person, and the only thing different between their method and ours, we use more guns when we fire.
